Issue with packaged Toshiba printer drivers?

03/01/2016 1430 views

I have an out of date Toshiba printer driver that pulls down from the print server when someone connects to it. The software packaging team was asked to package the updated printer drivers which i have done. My package installs but the printer does not utilize the new driver...anyone have an idea on this?

Windows 7 Corporate Environment

I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the printer.

This was packaged using DIFx 2.10

I did select the option to always overwrite the existing device driver.

If I do a fresh install of the package then connect the printer it will work.

Desktop team is looking to have the package update the drivers upon installing.

  • Def put the new driver on the print server.

This Technet article indicates that all you need to do is update the drivers on the printer server.
When a client attempts to print it will download and update to the latest driver from the server automatically.

Just a few questions...
Is it a plug and play driver?
Is it signed? (if not then it won't be used)
What happens if you manually set the printer to use the installed drivers (choose update drivers, manual and navigate to the driver store where the inf was installed to)

  • This is a plug and play driver. I ran a sigverif and it said everything was signed on the machine so I am assuming it is. Its a locked down environment so it won't allow me to do this manually.
    • Then you will have to get Admin permissions ofr it... how can you be expected to test without admin permissions?
      • I agree with you 100%. I have admin privileges on my cert box but since this printer is attached to a print server I can't manipulate anything within it.
  • Also, thank you for your reply.
    • Without admin permissions to do analysis, you are basically up the proverbial creek without the paddle..
