Java 6 Update 24 removal

04/16/2014 3568 views

Security has dumped the challenge of removing all old versions of Java. Untill today things have been going smoothly but when i try to uninstall java 6U24 using the Uninstall Wizard section of the Kace Box Java doesnt uninstall. Im using : MsiExec.exe /x{26A24AE4-039D-4CA4-87B4-2F83216024FF} which does nothing. I run that command from the command prompt and the uninstaller executes and removes the software but when using the same uninstall string in the KBox using the uninstall wizard under the scritping section nothing happens. Anyone have any ideas???

are the ones being left 64 bit?  you would need MsiExec.exe /X{26A24AE4-039D-4CA4-87B4-2F86416024FF} /qn for those.

I run a batch file via kscript every 2 hours during the weekdays to uninstall any version we have but 7u51.  I use http://www.itninja.com/blog/view/how-to-hide-running-a-batch-file-from-a-kscript-with-version-5-5 to hide the cmd window.

  • the batch justs skips the ones that do not apply and uninstalls when it comes to one that is finds. Only glitch I found was if they had a version 6u and 7u it took a couple of runs to get both since the misexec was in use uninstalling the first one in the batch file when it found a second valid one.
