K2000 - Deploying Image to OptiPlex 960 Errors at Creating Partition

Hi.  I am trying to deploy an image from the K2000 v4 to an OptiPlex 960 desktop, BIOS v11, 160GB hard drive. The KBE comes up fine and I can select the image fine.  The problem is when it's at the creating the single partition task, it errors out with error: Return Code: 2147942487. Error Description: Unknown error.  Clicking Retry Task does nothing but return the error.  I've tried another 160GB hard drive in this system and get the same error.  Has anyone else come across this and found a solution?

  • I would access a command prompt, enter diskpart and then complete a 'list disk' and 'list volume' results. What do those show? - TheAustinDave 6 years ago
  • Thanks for the reply. Crazy enough, it says: There are no fixed disks to show, and There are no volumes. I'm going to try another 960. Sounds like a bad controller. - ehansen 6 years ago
  • Same thing on another 960. For some reason, it does not want to create the primary partition. - ehansen 6 years ago
  • I've encountered this with OptiPlex 780's as well. Do these systems require the latest available BIOS or something else to make it work? - ehansen 6 years ago

For anyone needing to know, the fix for this was to build a KBE PE4 boot environment and boot these systems to it.  Was able to image them without a hitch after that.
