Hello, looking to create a brand new image in VMWare using Windows 10 1809. SDA is at latest 6.1.251. Has anyone had any issues creating this image or is it best to use 1803 to create the image?

Thanks

  • Should be no issues. Sysprep issues would be totally separate.
  • Thank you. We are planning to create UEFI image, when deploying UEFI images can we use KBE over NIC or can images only be deployed using USB disk? Thanks
    • Yes, you can pxe via uefi, just make sure your dhcp is setup correctly. Quest support site has a step by step guide if using Windows Server 2012 or higher, and also KBs for some other DHCP servers. I recommend you create your image as a BIOS image and attach the task group, "[DISK] BIOS/UEFI Tasks" See this ITNinja article for details https://www.itninja.com/blog/view/bios-uefi-combined-tasks
      • Thanks cserrins. I see the following Pre-Install tasks in the K2000 (v6.1.251) - [DISK] - Create BIOS/UEFI partitions. Is this the step to be applied? Does this prepare image for UEFI?
      • There is a pre and a mid task, it is easier to just apply the task group, which will assign both tasks to your image. This will prepare a machine for UEFI, but remember, your image should be captured from a single partition BIOS machine.
  • I just created new images using Windows 10ENT v1809 and had no issues. Created two types Legacy Bios and UEFI. As long as your DHCP server is configure correctly, there should be no issues. Good luck!
  • There should be no issues with 1809 KBE or image at this point. I wrote an article on best practices that might help. https://www.itninja.com/blog/view/sda-imaging-best-practices-sda-6-x
  • Thank you everyone for sharing these details. I will update once I have the images setup
