K2000 Windows 7 Recovery Partition Re-Image

Bit of an advanced setup, but I was trying to work out a way of deploying an image or scripted install of Windows 7 to a PC via the K2000 or USB, which also leaves a recovery image on a Recovery partition so when these systems are in remote locations we can re-image from the partition (or another disk potentionally) using the Windows Recovery tool, is this possible?

Cast the image with a single partition, configure and finialize the machine.  Give the machine a second HDD or use a usb drive and thru control panel use backup and restore and (on the left side) create a system image to the second drive.  If this is done on a schedule you can boot to Win 7 DVD and choose restore from a system image.  The machine will overwrite the boot drive and restore the machine without any other interaction.

  • You could walk a novice thru the restore proceedure. - SMal.tmcc 11 years ago
  • Most of the systems will only have a single disk, and right now I'm partitioning to include a system partition with the recovery tools and a recovery partition to store a recovery image, although not having much success with the recovery image part, just have the tools. I was hoping perhaps the very clever Corey or Patrick had done something like this. Really want it to be included and done as part of the imaging/scripted install, so there's nothing to do manually on the machine afterwards. - AJStevens 11 years ago
  • To run an automated image:
You can run this as a K2000post, K1000push or a scheduled task if you want so any changes the users make will be backed up within a set period of time.

    "WBADMIN START BACKUP -backupTarget:d: -include:c: -quiet >> C:\mydailybackupLog.txt"

makes an image of C volume and stores it on D. you could add a net use and send to a network storage also.
    C:\mydailybackupLog.txt is optional , to output a log to a textfile. - SMal.tmcc 11 years ago

You may be able to mutate this blog to work from a second boot partition:
