KACE FOR MAC PATCHING

How many of you are using BOX security patching for Microsoft patches and Mac patching.  i am currently using WSUS since it is free and works great in our environment and just bought Absolute manage which is not working out for us specially remote access just trying to find what others are using to patch mac and windows, the last version of kace i used was 6.0 can Kace patch Macs now.
I'd really like to know about people's experiences switching to KBOX Patching from WSUS or absolute manage.

Thanks!

  • We are a heavy OS X community and have run into issues with OS X patching (largely self inflicted). May I ask how you patch? Detect/deploy? Force reboot/Reboot snoozed? Thanks! - scchichester 5 years ago
    • When we initially setup patching we used a Detect and Deploy schedule but received a lot of complaints about multiple reboots. We now have separate schedules. Our detect schedule runs Thursday mornings and that is followed by a deploy schedule Thursday night. If machines are off at the time they will patch the next time they connect. We allow the user to snooze the reboot 15 times and they are reprompted every 120 minutes. The reason this is so long is because if a machine completes patching Thursday at 8:00pm KACE will prompt for the restart several times before the user gets into work Friday morning. We want to make sure they actually get the chance to save any documents before we force the restart. If no one is logged into the computer it restarts automatically.

We do run separate patching schedules for specific departments upon request although we have managed to keep this to a minimum. We also have separate schedules for our labs and classrooms that aren't open 24 hours a day. - chucksteel 5 years ago
