Kace SMA Windows 10 1809 not installing

I have been trying to get our Kace SMA (k1000) to push through Distribution Windows 10 Build 1809. I have used the guide below to do so but it fails part of the way through. To be honest, I haven't looked through the Event Logs to see what happens but I have ran the command that is in the article and it installs like it should. The command is "setup.exe /auto upgrade /quiet /showoobe none"

I am running the distribution again to see what the Event logs say and I'll report back here but I was wondering if anyone was having the same issues and what they did to fix it.

Thanks,

Bradley

Answer Summary:
I got pulled away by another project but removing the /quiet seems to be the best way to do this. n1md4 also has a good command line to point to the actual file to install it and not let the computer look to Windows Update in order to update. Thank you both for helping and I consider this to be good.

I have been looking into this as I am trying the same thing.  I took the /quiet off of it to walk through the install.  Lo and behold, it is asking what version of Windows I would like to install.  My guess is that you will need to choose this one way or another within the script.  I will look deeper into it to see if I can find out what it is.  Also, you should try to take the quiet switch out to see if you could possibly have an Antivirus blocking it.  I know I've had that before as well.

  • OK, I have tested this out, and it may work for you. For one, I found that leaving /quiet out will show the update as it's happening, however it will at least let you know what is going on instead of the machine just rebooting randomly. Secondly, I put used the /pkey switch with the product ID for Win 10 Pro. Even though it wasn't completely quiet, it did work on my test. Let me know if this helps you out. - zgillette 4 years ago
    • Oh wow, thank you for that info! I will have to try this out.

I found out on some of ours that we have a GPO that prevents Windows Updates from happening. If I remove that GPO from the computer and then push the update, most of the time it updates and works correctly.

Right after I posted, I tried one like this and it worked flawlessly. I tried another one and it bombed. It wouldn't go past the Recovery screen. I was able to get to a different version of OS, (not sure how this happened but it was 1607, upgrading to 1809 but the different version I was able to get into was 1803). I ran the installer for 1803 and it worked great.

I will have to try it out with no /quiet and see how it goes. Thank you for your help! - Ballen 4 years ago
      • because you get into 1803 i think your machine is querying windows update, explained why it works if you disable your WU blocking GPO

My install parameters command is this:
        setup.exe /auto upgrade /installfrom C:\ProgramData\Quest\KACE\downloads\30\sources\install.esd /dynamicupdate disable

your key might be /dynamicupdate disable

and to select the right OS Edition use the installfrom switch with full path to the install.esd in your downloads folder. your number might be a different than my 30

i and my users like to see what is happening, therefore no /quiet switch used - n1md4 4 years ago
