McAfee Enterprise AV 8.5i

Im trying to install this one as a silent install using the msi and SCCM, but I keep getting a language error and it tells me to use the setup.exe instead.
Well the whole point is to use the msi and not the exe.
I used Installation designer to modify the install, thinking that would help, but I still get the same error.

Anyone know of a workaround for this? A switch or something?

Thanks.

As ever, AppDeploy's Package KB comes to the rescue. Check out http://itninja.com/link/mcafee-download-site and you'll see that NA has a tool to help you, called Installation Designer.

As you might have noticed, I wrote I already use Installation Designer, which helps me not at all.

Still get the same error

On a further note, I do install on Windows XP Danish. Cant say if it just works on english XP.

Hi Egon,

Do you have the source media in the form on an exe. When you run the exe in temp it will extract the msi and some files in folder called McAfee 8.5 .Now hold on , dont terminate the installation here but go ahead and in %temp% you will find another msi and with a random name.
This is the msi you need and not the one in the folder.Hope this helps you [;)]

Alright I will try that, I did find the random.msi file, but I have to wait until monday to test it out.

Thanks in advance if that works :)

So its:

1. Run Installation Designer to make the install fit what you need.
2. Start installation with setup.exe until you reach the point where you choose installation folder.
3. Go to temp and find the random.msi file just created.
4. Replace that file with the original msi file.
5. stop installation.
6. use msiexec /q /i "msi file" to run installation.

correct?

Run Installation Designer to make the install fit what you need

No need to use the Installation Designer.
1)Empty the temp folder
2Click on setup.exe of Mcacfee 8.5
3)The setup.exe will extract the files to temp folder
4)You will find 2 msi files one with name such as VSE850.msi and another with random name.
5)You need to get the msi with the random name.
6)Transform this file as per your requirements.
