Migration from XP to Windows 8
1. Can/Should people skip Win7?
2. If so, what are the consequences and how can we help?
At the risk of biting the hand that feeds me, I'd say don't jump to a new MS operating system until someone (else) has had a chance to work out the bugs. Win 7 is stable, the issues are known, security fixes have been and are released currently, and there's a good community out there to help in case you have questions. Windows 8 has...
remember XP will go out of support on april 8 2014, so a migration by then would probably be a good idea. Considering the amount of work it takes to do a large scale migration from XP to 7, depending on the size of your organisation and of the software catalog you should probably get started sometime next year (at the latest).
Like Chuck said, skipping Windows 8 might be an option, but 7 should be seriously considered.
Agreed. Not seeing a major benefit to Win8 for my environment. At this point I would only deploy it to tablets if we get our hands on some - which makes sense. I'm having fun playing with it myself though! I would definitely suggest going to Win7 which is becoming the new old reliable over XP.
but beware as everyone else is saying
