MS office STD 2003!

Hi ,

I have to repackage MS office STD 2003.
Looking at the source media , I could see an exe and 3 MSIs : STD11.msi , OWC10.msi , OWC11.msi .

How Should I go about this package .I need the strategy to repackage MS office.Further elaborating , I want to know whether I have to pick any specific MSI and generate transform for that or recapture it ..etc...

All kinds of suggestions are most welcome!

You can try looking into the Custom Installation Wizard depending on the version you have (retail, ect). This is a good starting point. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc180019(TechNet.10).aspx

Actually this is the only safe way to do it-- you definitely want to spend time with the Custom Installation Wizard.

A matter of semantics, but you are not "repackaging" Office (it is already an MSI you are looking to transform). To repackage is to make your own MSI from the vendor's original. Many refer to customizing the setup as you are trying to do as "packaging" an application/setup, but if you say "repackaging" you are likely to get a bunch of people telling you not to do so ;)

And while you are at it, you may want to look up "slipstreaming" so that you can patch your msi with all the updates now rather than later. Look up http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/ as a good place to begin.

hi,

I am surely going not to recapture it but to apply a MST only. But how can I recognise that which is the one required MSI out of the three present.

The STD11.msi is the actual office install. the OWCXX.msi installs the office web components.

so that means owcxx.msi 's web components are not required in office 2003

that would be a question for your requirements gathering process & the needs of your organization. i suggest that you look through the office documentation then have a discussion with whoever is leading your packaging/deployment effort and figure out what you need/don't need. cheers!

hi,

as per the requrement , those web components are also required to be part of package .Now my queries are :
Do I need to make three packages now i.e. three MSTs for the three MSIs or through one MST , I should call the other two MSIs.
Also , MSDE is also the requirement of the package , for which one exe is present in the source media and I think that needs to be recaptured to make MSI .

So , in total 4 packages , I need to deleiver .or one single package can serve the purpose..Please advise!

An MST refers only to one MSI so you would need one MST per MSI. You can of course apply more than one MST to an MSI but an MST cannot be used for more than one MSI.
