NAI Sniffer Pro 4.7.5 Network Card detection
Hi people,
Anyone ever packaged Sniffer Pro 4.7.5 by Network Associates Inc? I'm trying to package this on an XP image containing Network Associates Virus software, so deciphering any missing registry entries and files is annoying. I have an MSI file with no Orca errors, and it HAPPILY installs without error, but unfortunately the software won't launch properly. Everytime I launch it prompts for a network adapter, but you have to use the supplied network adapter browser tree which doesn't detect the current network adapter. There is some sort of configuration or resource missing from this installation and I have looked everywhere I can think of.
Anyone got any ideas what this installation is missing?
PS: If I install the MSI, uninstall it again and then try to install the original source media, the setup requires a restart at the destination directory prompt, and then automatically re-opens again when booted. Note: the source installation always requires a reboot at the end of installation.

Hi,
I've just finished this application, so hopefully this will be useful.
As you know you can't package the sniffer protocol as it needs to bind to the network card, so remove all of the registry information that relates to the protocol and network card.
Use the application snetcfg.exe in a custom action to install the protocol and also you can remove the QOS service with this exe.
You can download snetcfg from here: http://www.jsifaq.com/SUBJ/tip4700/rh4705.htm
Once you have this exe the rest is plain sailing, however you will need to reboot after the application is installed before you run it.
You may also have to grant additional permissions to the HKLM registry keys as subkeys will be created at runtime, the same goes for the installdir.

I had to give out some stars for that one. I did blow some significant time last year trying to figure out how to get a protocol inf file to install. Only if I had this info earlier.

I gave up on that one because it needs to install a network packet driver and you cannot setup capture those. If anyone knows how to take the .inf file and make it install the driver silently then it might work. Unfotunately I am no longer at the client site that tried to repackage it so I have no need to bash my head further. [:D]

Hi - guess it may be worth having a look at the MS Driver Installation Framework tools.
