Packager disappears 10% into first snapshot

Hello all,

Hope you can help me with this issue. I just downloaded the repackager (ver. 1.2.28) and I'm trying to create an MSI for my malwarebytes.exe that I also just downloaded.

I selected the exe from my C: drive clicked next --> clicked next again at the directories and registry hives screen --> the program starts scanning my computer but then disappears 10 seconds into the scan.

Any ideas on what to do?

Thanks for your time

I have not heard of this happening before. Are you working from a "clean" computer? My best guess would be that you are using a computer with lots of software and such installed and the snapshot process is running into a memory issue, but that would assume that it took a very long time to get to 10%. The subject says 10% but the text says 10 seconds. Is it really dying in 10 seconds?

What OS are you running on? Be sure to run the tool as administrator as it needs permission to read all files/folders/registry.

Hi Bob,

I just timed it and it disappears after 14 seconds but you are right about my computer not being clean. It has a million and one applications so I've got a fresh install going right now of Windows 7 64 bit.

To answer your other questions, it didn't take long to get to 10% but as soon as it scans 72000 items it disappears ( not sure if the packager thinks this is a large amount of files)

Also I ran the program as administrator.

I guess I should have watched your youtube video before trying it.

Thanks!

Thanks for your input Bob, on my clean machine Appdeploy did it's thing and I was able to build an MSI. Unfortunately the MSI didn't work on a different machine and spitted out error 2709.

Unfortunately it sounds like a problem with the way the MSI was built and would appear to indicate a problem with the Repackager tool itself.

Did you do any file and registry clean-up after the second snap shot? Perhaps there was some garbage captured that needs to be cleaned out. The included exclusion list helps to pull some things out but is far from all inclusive.

ProcDump

use the -s argument to create a crash dump for the process which could help to analyze what's going on.
I'm sure Bob would like that ;)
