Patching servers

Hi,


what type of patches and labels to be used for Patching servers, i have not patched servers before, 
what are the precautions and steps to be taken to patch a server

Patching server is similar to workstation  patching .


  • Make sure you have correct subscription.
  • Time windows to restart server if required.


Server are critical so make sure you have the approval in place along with change window.

  • thanks, some servers run SQL,IIS and some doesnt , should i include MS patches for IIS , SQL also there are LYNC and SCCM server updates , how can i make sure these dont apply to servers? - rahimpal 6 years ago
    • You can create a new patch schedule to target any device labels (e.g. your servers) which include only patches in certain labels (e.g. all patches that aren't LYNC patches). - JasonEgg 6 years ago

I understand this issue arises more often than not. but if you opt for automated patch management , it could reduce it considerable level.
