Problems with new SSDs. Failing at Apply Image.

Hey Everyone!

Lately, we've been having some troubles imaging. We received a shipment of new Crucial 500GB SSDs to upgrade our Optiplex 790s and 7010s.

For some weird reason, they don't seem to want to image using Kace. During the deployment process, they will pass the formatting C: drive process (Or Create UEFI partitions) but will eventually fail on the Apply Image. Sometimes after multiple attempts, they will finally image.

I'm stumped and not sure whats going on.

We boot off of USB. I've tried both legacy and UEFI formats with the same result.

Anyone else experienced the same thing?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    • It looks like the BIOS isnt up to date. Its on A19 and the most recent is A22. I have a few meetings today, but will try the update and let you know the result. - cbargas 5 years ago
  • Honestly I'm not sure. I will have to check. How would that effect things? - cbargas 5 years ago
  • I have two suggestions.
    1. Is your SATA operation set to AHCI instead of RAID?
    2. Try setting your Fastboot to Thorough. This does a complete hardware initialization during boot.

I agree on making sure the BIOS is up to date. It is so that all of the firmware for the motherboard and its components are up to date with fixes and be able to handle any new hardware that it might encounter. - AAnschutz 5 years ago
  • Please post the error code and return codes, they must be right there in the Failed Task screen - Channeler 5 years ago
    • You'll have to forgive me, I'm still somewhat new to Kace. How do I find the error codes? It fails on Apply Image, shows a red X next to the task and then continues on to the rest of the tasks. - cbargas 5 years ago
      • when a task fails, it prints the Task ID, Error Message and Return Code on the screen.

Hey Everyone, sorry for the delayed response. I spoke with Quest and they suggested that I create a new KBE. That seems to have fixed the problem so far. Thanks for all the suggestions.
