Quicktime 7.5.5 - help - extract .msi

Greetings - I am new to this stuff - and usually I can figure things out - but I am pretty stumped here, and maybe someone can give me some simple instructions on this. I have been assigned to create a NAL push for the new Quicktime 7.5.5 - without the iTunes, auto updates - etc. I have tried to extract the .msi. I downloaded the file from Applie, and then typed in the command line c:\>QuicktimeInstaller.exe /a /package Quicktime.msi - that did not seem to work, I also tried QuicktimeInstaller.exe /a QuictimeInstaller.msi - anyway, one of these created a temp file under the local settings, and there were 3 .msi files located. I tried to use the one labeled Quicktime.msi - but when I tested it, I got the message that it was not a valid win32 application.
I am pretty confused at how to get this file extracted correctly and to be able to get it configured to do what we want - etc. I have gotten a help screen when I try to extract the msi file, but it does not make sense to me - like I said - I am new to this stuff, and really would like to know more about it. Some pretty simple instructions on what the type of stuff I should type in the command line would be great - I am really not up on Geek speak and ancronyms confuse the begeebers out of me. Any help to this simpleton would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Another option that has worked on this and other EXE's with embedded MSI's... I've found that the MSI's get extracted into a folder within C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp during the install process. So, kick off the EXE then look in the folder above before stepping thru all the settings choices.

You will find the QuickTime 7.55.90.70 MSI in the following directory.
"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\Installer Cache\QuickTime 7.55.90.70"

funny, i just ran QuickTimeInstaller.exe
then i found QuickTime.msi in c:\Temp\IXP466.TMP
the directory will probably be different on your system, i'm sure it's a randomly generated directory name

BTW, there are plenty of previous threads that cover how to get the msi, and configure it for deployment. apple has had the same lame installer for several revs (although they officially denied it, their previous rev hijacked all the media file associations, at least I was glad to see they got rid of that "feature" with 7.5.5)

Jack,

Do not hi-jack threads with a different question.
Start a new thread instead; however, this time you already have at the Windows Installer Errors forum.

Like nheim said, 7ZIp is easily the way to go. It's open licence, so no nag messages each time you open it.

Just download / copy the Quicktimeinstaller.exe into a location / folder of your choice, right click it, and select 7zip>Extract

or 7zip>Extract to: <Folder name with same name as file>

Too Easy!

No hunting around or putting up with that stupid animated yellow dog in windows search!!

I am running Windows 7 and found the MSI's in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp. I also installed 7Zip and that seemed to work well also.

Hi Cherrie,
use a tool like 7-zip to extract the quicktime.msi.
