Did you ever successfully package 9i into an MSI? We're attempting to do so after successfully packaging 8.1.7 and 8.0.6. We keeping getting an "Internal Error 2705. Directory" error.

Has anyone seen this issue?

No, i didn't, i've the same error you got.... Let me know if you find a solution to this issue...

I have packaged Oracle 9i (9.2.0.10) successfully.

Most likey the error you're getting is from the MSI's attempt to create the Oracle ODBC Driver entry.

Since the 2 Oracle dlls necessary for the driver are NOT in the system path (I think they're in c:\Orant\Oracle\Bin), the MSI can't find them to install.

If you try to update the path INSIDE that .MSI, no joy... it seems as if the .MSI takes an initial look at the path, and never looks at it again to see if it's ben updated.

My admittedly klugey workaround is to use a small MSI which first updates the path environment variable and then kicks off the install I made.

By the way, I am also working on some WiseScript custom actions to handle editting the TNSNAmes.ORA and SQLNet.ORA files... my current client's method for updating these files is to REPLACE them - not the most robust solution.

The best tip I can give you is to split out the tnsnames.ora file as a seperate package totally.

If you need to make the slightest change to that file you will have to fully uninstall Oracle each time it changes if its included in your Oracle package.

If you make a small msi with the tnsnames.ora file in it you will only ever need to unistall that one file in order to change it and reinstall.

Also I have seen an article about adding the environment variable PATH correctly so that it unistalls without ruining the system path.

That's a great point - I never thought about changes to the TNSNames.ora file triggering self-repair.

I'm having trouble with this one... Oracle 9i Personal Edition... 2.8GB in all..

Are there any tips on using a particular SetupCapture config?
I get past the Inclusions/exclusions lists, fill in the final page details, but during the final phase (WSI creation) it ends and I have nothing in my share point, it returns to the Projects/Tools screen with no errors. (I'm not creating a setupcapture report as it would be a bit big)

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Have a look in the Wise newsgroups because this is a known issue in WPS 4.x
