For what it's worth, I'm using Dell OEM media (WinXP Pro SP3) with my scripted XP installs and they work fine - I just have to enter the license (CD key) from the OEM sticker on the machine when the XP install begins.

John,
You are the first person to have reported success with this in my 3 years with KACE. Is this a Dell OEM CD, or different brand? Now I know that Windows 7 will work, but have never had XP work. Again, even with success, keep in mind the EULA.

Understood, but I don't give up easily and tend to make my own luck with these things. I do recall trying many, many different things until it worked and from there just kept duplicating my existing working scripted install to create the others.

Here's the details from the top of the blue-green (teal?) OEM CD in case it may help:

These CDs came with OEM machines that we ordered. I followed the typical KACE instructions for getting one onto the K2000 for source media (and I do remember trying several CDs).

As for the EULA, I have researched this several times and OEM media is *not* to be used with *images* (i.e. can't sysprep, etc). Scripted installs are exactly the same as manual installs (which is what I did prior to the K2000...) and I enter the OEM XP key from the label on the machine during the scripted install process. So this is simply automation (with a few inconvenient pauses - but still much faster than doing *everything* manually).

Again, I ran into issues with this initially (the install hanging at different points, etc), but I just kept trying different things until it worked. As for exactly *what* got it working I can't exactly say, but it is working with the OEM media I uploaded.

Yes, the win7 oem media is not giving is any trouble.

I too have both Dell XP sp3 OEM and Dell 7 OEM working with scripted deployments. Never had an issue. - ohiosoundguy 11 years ago

I'm working with one of the K2000 engineers to determine which files are making this work/fail. Hopefully there will be a working solution soon.

No, but I did install xp on this very same machine using the same cd from which i extracted the source for k2000 - kireberik 11 years ago

Maybe a bad capture of the source media? Try to upload it again and see if you still get the error. - nheyne 11 years ago

uploaded two different times from two different media sources,.

But im not exactly sure what "m" and "all" folders its referring to, because I went to on the K2000 share and all that is there are driverfeeds and restore folders. - kireberik 11 years ago
