Setup.exe produce two parallel dialogs during an install, only able to record ISS for first one
Setup.exe launches a second setup.exe that i am not able to record an iss file for. I am only able to record one for the first one, and when i call the installation silently, it hangs ( i guess is wating for the response file for the second exe that is being launched) i am not able to locate the second exe to record a silent install too ( is not in temp).
Any ideas? The vendor does not even know what a silent install is!!!

Already it has several MSI's then why are you trying to repackage the application into an MSI. Why don't you create transform for each msi.
You can identify the Installation sequence from event viewer..

Try using procmon to track the installation, then you should be able to find out in which order the setups and msi's are launched. It might be a bit tricky, but since you extracted the files you at least know which files to look for.
have you tried the extract_all parameter? You might get lucky..

Yes, i am able to extract the files with no issues, however it gives me several MSI and EXEs...is a mess,n no way to guess the sequence after several trials... the vendor (Landis + Gyr ) does not even know what a silent install is ....i have tried to repackage the application into an MSI , and it gets installed, however after removal it breaks the MSI installer - ssergio25 11 years ago

if the exe's seem to cover the same products as the MSIs you might try to get a complete installation done only using the MSI files. A file compare tool like Beyond Compare or kdiff can help you identify missing components comparing a manual and msi-based installation.
If you repackage you will want to exclude any MSI installers from the snapshot by pre-installing them on your capture machine. You can always install these components directly with the MSI installers you extracted, and then install your capture-based MSI on top of those. - pjgeutjens 11 years ago
