Should installer run for each profile on a computer?

I have noticed that the msi does a config step for each person that logs into a machine.  Is this normal or is there a step in the setup that can avoid this and just install for all users on a given computer?

  • Usually, the setup is a default for all users. What exactly are you trying to install? Maybe you haven't configured the install switches for that software correctly - akmagnum 3 years ago
    • There are no switches to configure for this piece of software that would relate to installing per user rather than globally. The installer itself just runs and is there for all users. - mathia 3 years ago
  • What is the software you are installing? Each installer can behave differently. An MSI install by itself should not install for each person on log in, but an MSI installer can be called to do that from a different process (such as a program launching may install a prerequisite to the user). - mtatro 3 years ago
  • I hate to have abandoned this thread in case it might be of value to others using Pace. I am installing a lending package called Decision Pro from Finastra. I have come back this post as I am doing an update to this same package.
The Event Viewer shows that a resource is not available, so I have removed that resource from my package and am rebuilding the msi at this point. I will post again with my results. - mathia 3 years ago
