Signal 'Return' Key after Wake on lan
Here's one for you. I have some Windows XP PC's that dual boot between two partitions. One is commonly used and the other not. The countdown to select the more commonly used partition ( default ) sits at 999seconds.
Like using the right click tools on a collection in sccm 2012, does anybody know of a way I could WOL then wait 20 seconds and send a signal 'return' key to select the default partition and start booting.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There's not going to be anything to help you send a 'return' key - you're in the boot loader and not in any OS at that point.
The WOL is just a magic wakeup packet sent to the NIC - it's not actioning anything else on the machine, nor can it at this point. SCCM only works when you're in your OS.
The best you could do is write a script to change to 'timeout' setting in the boot.ini (assuming that's the loader you're using) so that it boots quickly to the default OS.
You'd then have to write another script to set it back again afterwards.
It's not going to that simple either as you'd have to run the script to reduce the timeout in advance of knowing that you'll need to WOL the machine in question, and then run the other script to set it back.
It's only aprox 17 min you're waiting for the loader to timeout - is that too long to wait?
The other option would be to reduce the timeout setting to a shorter time and tell your users to be quick when selecting the OS :)

Nope your right, thats as I thought. The request came my way from a manager that thinks just about anything conceivable is possible through config manager! Back to Plan A, permanently reduce the timeout period. Cheers - sonik777 10 years ago
