Trying to deploy Windows 8.1 to a Latitude e5440. Misc errors with Windows 8.1, though Windows 7 loads fine

I'm trying to deploy a Windows 8.1 (x64) scripted install to a Latitdue e5440.  I'm able to deploy the windows 8.1 scripted install to other machines just fine.  I'm able to install Windows 7 (x64) just fine.  I've been able to get Windows 8.1 to deploy to the e5440 just once, but took several attempts.  Now it just doesn't work...  I've updated my K2000 to ver 3.6, the e5440 (x64 drivers are selected to download,  I've uploaded my source media again, and rebuilt my KBEs nothing seems to help with this model...

I'm very disappointed that Dell products always have such a tough time with other Dell products....  It's not like I'm deploying HP products with a Dell appliance!  This situation isn't helping Dell's cause in our organization.  We're planning to install and test SCCM first half this year and this may just be the final stand for Dell.

The Latitude e5440 has UEFI enabled.  Your image works on the older machines without UEFI.  You need to turn off UEFI Security in BIOS.  That should allow you to deploy your scripted install.

I would verify that the driver path is still the same. I had an issue with my Lenovo models after the 3.6 update. Run the discovery tool vbs from that machine, and verify the path ("\\k2000\drivers_postinstall\feed_tools\driver_feed_discovery_tool.vbs").

  • It's not getting far enough to worry about Postinstall feed. The scripted install bombs just after windows setup on this model. Scripted install is fine as other older models install fine. - harold.moorhead 10 years ago
