Unable to get IP during PXE Boot

I'm working on setting up and testing the K2000 and I'm unable to get an IP address when I boot via PXE. I have the options set in DHCP and when booting to Windows I can get an IP address on the machine. I'm using legacy BIOS not UEFI. We have spanning-tree enabled on our HP switches. Could this be the reason why it won't grab an IP address during the PXE boot? I asked our dedicated Dell engineer for the trial periods and he didn't know.. I've read online that spanning tree makes the PXE boot time-out because it takes too long to get an IP address. I'm pretty sure I have everything configured properly. I can ping the DNS machine from the client, I can TFTP into the appliance from the client machine...I can do everything but can an IP during PXE boot.

  • ...I'm using my DHCP server which is on a different subnet than the client. Option 66 and 67 are set in DHCP. - mikepz 7 years ago
    • are you using Microsoft? - SMal.tmcc 7 years ago
  • duh, you are getting dhcp IP in windows. Does it pxe boot and starts, but tells you it cannot connect to the server? Or does it not even pxe boot at all? do the kbe dots go by? - SMal.tmcc 7 years ago
    • It can not connect to the DHCP server, hence why I said I can't get an IP address, but that's not my question. I want to know how/if spanning-tree will prevent KACE from working. - mikepz 7 years ago
      • yes - but also make sure you set your dhcp options per subnet not globally this can also give problems

      • I was asking this is because if you see the pxe loading dots scroll by and you do not get an ip that is a different problem - SMal.tmcc 7 years ago
