Uninstalling old program with MI

I am new to managed installs. I want to create an MI to uninstall Reader 11.03. When it asks to 'upload and associate file' I am not sure where to find that.

Also if this works how do I run this MI and then follow it with an MI to install 11.08?

Thanks.

Jane

  • I just tried something different that seemed to work once. I used the Adobe CLEANER TOOL. I created a script to run this, uninstalling 11.03. Then I had an MI that installed 11.08.

Anyone have any feedback about Adobe Cleaner Tool? It seems like I have read negative things about this.

    Thanks

  • Most Reader/Acrobat uninstalls should use the MSIEXEC /X command unless it really got messy somehow, so using the tool should be a last resort.

As for your 11.03 to 11.08 situation, there's no need to uninstall the old version. Simply apply the patch to an existing install with the appropriate "MSIEXEC /update" syntax. - vjaneczko 9 years ago
  • I tried the msiexec /update syntax and I refreshed the computer that was assigned to that MI and it didn't run.

I don't have those old versions of .msi.

Do you have any specific reason why I should use that cleaner tool?

Thanks for your help - jfrasier 9 years ago
  • extract the MSP and run that, unless its a wonderful MSI upgrade. If so, just run the MSI upgrade (without the /upgrade) . If you want to remove the older version, get the ProductCode Guid from an existing machine
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
    and use that. ..
