VMware vSphere Client 4.1.msi

I'm trying to package VMware vSphere Client 4.1 and see that it has VMware vSphere Client 4.1.msi included in the .exe. It also has Microsoft Visual J# 2.0 Redistributable Package.msi packaged as a dependancy install.

I've extracted both of these files and installed MS Visual.msi and then tried to install vm client.msi but it fails. I found the following in the event log:
Product: VMware vSphere Client 4.1 -- Error 1721.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action: VM_InstallVIClientHelp, location: C:\Windows\Installer\MSI2762.tmp, command: /S /INSTALLDIR=C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Virtual Infrastructure Client\Help\

Any ideas what program it is requiring for the install?

ahh it was a dirty machine and the uninstaller didn't clear everything out.

I got it working now using the VM.msi after the MS Visual install but the MS Visual.msi requires installing using the MS Visual.exe.

Any ideas how to just use the Microsoft Visual J# 2.0 Redistributable Package.msi instead of using the .exe installer package?

I'm sure that that redist is available as a separate download and, when run to the first 'Welcome' screen will have extracted an MSI to %TEMP%.

Yep I've already got the jsredist.msi from the %temp% but its not alone. It copies install.msi and about 40 other files which it calls on.

If I copy all these to a network share I can run just the jsredist.msi from there but I don't want to manage the network share too. This is like the dotnet framework redistributable where you need a network install location.

I need the jsredist to be just msi + mst if needed.

I've also checked out - http://itninja.com/link/download-location-for-x86.

I havn't found a way to get this working as a single MSI yet without the other source files.

Any ideas?

If you have Wise or InstallShield, it's a snap to change the media option such that the MSI uses internal, compressed files in CABs instead of external, uncompressed files. If you're using InstEdit/Orca, then you need to edit the Media table. You can obviously do that too in the other apps, it's just that the UI of those tools makes it much simpler and quicker.

hi ,
i did package this app some time back .
to install jsredist.msi u need to pass some argument . at this moment i don't remember
while installing the jsredist.exe take a log and then see when parameters are getting passed to msi .

this will help ..
