What are the specs of a good packaging machine?
I am new to Packaging and deployment. My employers have offered to upgrade the existing packaging machine.
The current Machine:
Intel Quad Core Q6600 CPU
4 x 2gb DDR2-667
ATI FireGL v7700 graphics
240gb system drive
1.7T drive for software and images
This machine runs VMWare workstation and several OS models for testing deployments and packaging the software.
So, I need to give them specs for a replacement machine that will do the job well for a couple of years, and have been asked to try and keep the budget below 3k. Hit me with suggestions.

I would recommend at least having these specs: 16GB RAM, fastest processor you can find (some of the 3rd Gen i7 stuff looks way cool), 2 2TB hard drives, and of course 64 Bit Arch. I would also make sure whatever machine you get supports 4 monitors to make it easier to control/view multiple VM machines. Basically, the machine I dream about having at home...
For VM ware the ram and HDD space are important. If you plan on having multiple vm's up on the machine get lots of ram and run 64bit os. Get a large second HDD to store backups and vm's on
Virtualization Technology (VT) should be available in BIOS setting to load 64 bit OS as guest operating system in VMWare.
We use HP XW series workstations with a Core 2 Quad processor
4 gigs of ram(32 bit XP OS)
1 primary drive for OS, and 1 for VM and cache.
Make sure you get plenty of room on the one holding the VM, we do our image creations and all testing on the VM's.
