PXE (pronounced PiXiE)  stands for Pre-boot Execution Environment. The PXE model provides computers the ability to load and execute a network bootstrap program (NBP) from a server on the network prior to booting the OS on the local hard drive. This is done remotely which eliminates the need to visit machines and boot them with floppy disks, as is normally the practice today.
