What is the easiest most user friendly MSImaker sround?
Hi,
I am looking for the most easiest to use MSI maker around. I have zero experiance making an msi and I am looking for a tool that doesnt require a high learning curve.
Is there a tool that will take an .exe and convert it to an msi? I dont want to have to be a rocket expert to use the tool. Is there a general, all purpose tool that will meet these requirements? I have the funds to purchase but dont want to end up getting something that wont work.

Since you say you have the funds, may I suggest in the most friendly way possible that you make it your goal to purchase the most robust repackager possible that will create the highest quality .msi's possible. Check out this AppDeploy thread:

It deals with how to get started with Wise Package Studio (if that turns out to be your repackaging choice).
Investing in a top quality repackager and in learning how to use it will reap huge rewards down the road, and will save you the frustration of creating packages that sometimes work, sort of work, or just don't work.
If you have funds left over, I recommend you consider buying Package Cleaner, which is promoted on this site. This can help get you up to speed on what belongs in a package and what does not, as well as explaining why.

If you can afford it then get Wise.....either Package Studio Pro or Wise installer for Windows.
At least you will get good support and its an industry standard that alot of info is available for.

You can launch the exe with parameters, as many, many installed already have unattended/silent switches for installation. Personnally, that rocks, and made me save some precious time trying to tweak those MSI created by a repackager, that works on Win2K but not XP and blabla... Hell!

Wrapping is ok for apps that refuse to be repackaged to msi format.....but they lose the ability to do self repair and heal. You also lose the ability to patch and upgrade.

I "2nd" what MSIMaker has said, and add an additional limitation of using an .msi wrapper: You also loose the ability to deploy the software with elevated admin privileges via publishing the app.
