Where can I find Merge Modules for VC++ 2008 SP1 MFC Security Update v9.0.30729.6161?

Hi all,

A third party app we use now requires v9.0.30729.6161 of the VC++ 2008 Runtime.  We currently have an earlier version included in a repackaged installation via Merge Module.

I was wondering if anyone knows if there are Modules available for v9.0.30729.6161.

I tried installing VS 2008 on a VM with all the latest updates applied afterwards, but the Modules were not updated.  Applying the version specific vcredist .exe didn't update them either.

I guess if I can't find modules I'll have to simply chain the vcredist to the current install.  I'm then wondering if this redist...

... is the complete runtime or just some changes for the MFC update.  In other words, I wonder if I can remove the current VC++ 2008 Merge Modules I'm using and simply install the runtime via this .exe.

Any information on either locating Modules or, if none available, whether the .exe will suffice in installing the complete, required runtime would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Much!!

  • Well, I'm back for my yearly VC++ MM search. I haven't had the chance to create my own Merge Modules and it looks like Microsoft no longer distributes MM for VC++ with Visual Studio (2013 in this case).

I guess I might examine a 2010 MM and try to create my own from the VS 2013 VC\redist folders. However, if anyone knows where I might be able to grab MMs for this version of VC++, please let me know!! - Superfreak3 10 years ago

Why not create your own MM? It's really not hard and it's not like VC r/t won't ever be used again! :-)

  • That sounds cool, but how would I go about creating the MM for the particular version of VC++ runtime I may need? I would certainly need to be sure all necessary files are included, registered, etc.

I would love to move in this direction instead of chaining!!

The only issue may be that this is for another third part app, the installation for which we have repackaged. I'm wondering if I would need to find out from them how the VC++ runtime is referenced in their projects, which would effect how the pieces need to be deployed.

We now need the MFC security update so I wonder if I just need that library. If that is the case, I wonder if I can remove the MFC merge module from the installation and just deal with update MFC somehow.

Any help progressing on this path would be MORE THAN APPRECIATED!!! - Superfreak3 11 years ago
