Where do I begin with imaging Ubuntu Linux 12.04?

So with our current environment, we are imaging our Windows computers using Kace 2200.  I would like to do the same with our Ubuntu 12.04 image.  How/Where do I start?

Answer Summary:
Use KBE Manipulator or Clonezilla http://web01.itninja.com/blog/view/kbe-manipulator-to-boot-linux-from-a-k2000 http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/clonezilla.html

Currently, Linux imaging isn't supported.  This should change when 3.6 is released later this year.

That said, it is possible to use the KBE Manipulator to boot to Linux:

  • Do you know when 3.6 will be released?
    • It's currently expected late November, early December 2013.

3.5 will allow Kickstart (the equivalent of a Scripted Installation) for Linux installations in the near future. For true imaging, you'll want to use the KBE Manipulator method that jknox linked or use Clonezilla Live (which can also be uploaded to the K2000 via KBE Manipulator...) to image your Ubuntu machines. Check out this tutorial on using clonezilla: http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/clonezilla.html

  • Ahhh nice! Clonezilla! I am very familiar with that. Thanks guys!
  • Alright, I'm familiar with Clonezilla...but not so much with Kace. Are there step by step instructions on getting the Clonezilla app onto Kace?

Alright...so been hammering at this for a bit. I'm a total noob when it comes to the K2000.  Anyone have any tips as to how I can get Clonezilla onto the K2000 box?

  • I haven't tried it recently, but this might help: http://www.itninja.com/blog/view/k2000-kbe-manipulator-and-clonezilla
