Where does Kace get MX information?

When running the MX Lookup  diagnostic utility,  where does Kace pull the mx information from? When we run mxlookup with "company.com" , we get a return that it's looking at "exchange server.company.com". I need to know where this is configured in Kace so, I can change it to look at our new exchange server.

Any help would be appreciated.

The MX Lookup  diagnostic utility is running the command   "dig <the domain you entered>  MX".

So you will want to look at your SMA Network Settings to see what DNS server your appliance is referencing.

  • I get that part. And I know which DNS server it is using. What I need to know is what is telling it to look at the particular DNS entry? Currently it's looking for casarray.company.com. That casarray no longer exists so, i need it to look for ex2016.company.com. I'm just not sure where to find that setting in Kace - MBordelon 3 years ago
    • A mail exchanger record (MX record) specifies the mail server responsible for accepting email messages on behalf of a domain name. It is a resource record in the Domain Name System (DNS). The appliance is referring the DNS server that is defined in your SMA networking settings. If you are not getting the excepted response, the DNS server needs to be updated with the correct MX record information. - KevinG 3 years ago
      • Thanks for the help. Honestly, I didn't realize we had mx records in the internal dns. I've only dealt with external mx records. But, I was able to create an mx record in internal dns to point to the new exchange server. works perfectly. - MBordelon 3 years ago
