Why aren't patches showing up on "installed updates"
Hi all, i am new here so don't mind my newbiness!
I have a Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 for Windows Server 2008 (KB2901983) - from the reports generated in Kbox it shows that this got pushed successfully to my servers. Now for audit purposes I need to be able to verify that this patch is successfully installed on the servers but when i go to installed updates it does not show up
Below image shows that it successfully installed:
This shows that there is no update for that particular KB:
When i go to add/remove programs i see that it is installed as an application?
I guess i am confused about, when i should look under add/remove programs? How would you know it is a program that is installed?
And also for the following:
Software Removal Tool x64 - February 2015 (KB890830)|
The only way i am able to verify it got installed at the moment is to go to run and type MRT to see which version is installed, why doesn't the system pick these up that they have been installed and show on the server in the update list?
Lastly, is there some issue, why don't patches that are applied by Kbox show as updated on the "view update history" and only on "installed updates"?

I suspect that the reason is based around the "size" of the update. With the 3.5 SP1 releases, these would appear to be minor upgrades which do not change the major version "SP1"
With the 4.5.2 release, this would appear to be a major upgrade as it updates the version number in field 3 of the version string, whereas minor upgrades are more likely to just update the build version in field 4 of the version string. Basically, the version fields are xx.yy.aaaa.bbbb where each of the digits is a hex value, so the range of versions runs from 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.65535.65535 in decimal.

So, for audit purposes how would you be able to tell if patches were applied or not? The auditors won't want to rely simply on the Kbox reports. At least when we used wsus, I could see every patch that was applied, now that we are using Kbox, it seems that patches get applied but verification is an issue.
