Why does the NIC driver not install during my scripted installation?
Before I give any details, I must sadly admit that when it comes to using msi commands and most of the features of KACE, I am totally clueless. I have searched and searched, for months, for answers to simple questions but don't seem to be getting anyhwere.
That said, I am having difficulty getting a scripted installation to install the driver for my ethernet card. In Postinstallation Tasks, after scripted install but before reboot, I have Drivers - x64 Driver Feed Workaround set to run. That didn't seem to work, so I also added (after the reboot) Drivers - Install Feed to Workstation. If I remember correctly, these tasks are included when KACE ships, so they weren't created after the fact.
Note: the corresponding drivers to this particular NIC have been uploaded to KACE. It's a Dell machine, so they could have been there already, but I'm trying to rule out anything simple like that.
Any ideas as to why this driver doesn't install? Again, I am very new to KACE, and frankly kind of new to systems administration in general, so I may be overlooking something that would seem obvious to others. Any help is appreciated.

You do not need to use the driver feed work around with scripted installs. That is for system images. When you uploaded your NIC driver did you recache the drivers afterwards?

I did recache the drivers, yes. I thought I saw some things talking about not needing to use the driver feed workaround, but then I also thought I remembered someone from Dell telling me to use it... but obviously if it's not needed it's not needed.
Maybe I can try my next machine without that step, and see if my results are any different.
Also, I'm going to upload the driver again, just in case my memory serves me wrong. Will post results next week when I'm back in the office. Thanks for your help! - Ultimation 11 years ago -
It is not needed for version 3.4 and higher for SIs. If running 3.3 then it is needed. I would try copying your nic driver into drivers_postinstall as well as the drivers folder.

I am running 3.3 (3.3.47466) so until I update I'll need to keep using the workaround. I did run the install and the driver for my ethernet card did not install automatically. My next steps will be to ensure the drivers are in the correct directories.
Unfortunately, due to my inexperience with KACE, there appear to be several potential locations the drivers could/should go. I want to just try them one at a time until I see which one works, but I can't wait that long to have PCs in place, so I'm going to have to keep doing a lot of manual work for now. :( - Ultimation 11 years ago
