Why does Windows 8 updates suggest I install WDDM graphics driver when I have the official AMD Radeon drivers installed from their website?

As above, just a general question.

  • This may or may not be related, but our K2200 (version 3.6.98680) doesn't list ANY Radeon drivers under the Drivers tab. I know for a fact we have Radeon cards in our Dell machines. Why aren't they showing up? - shanksr 9 years ago

I suspect that the WDDM driver may be a newer release/higher version number than the official AMD driver, and this is the reason that you are getting this message. You can get the current driver version from control panel and then see what driver version is being offered through windows updates.  Personally, I tend to go with the WDDM drivers as I've not had a great experience of AMD drivers but YMMV.
