windows installer
I am having a problem, every time I highlight a movie file, windows installer thinks I am installing easy cd creator, when I am not !!, and tries to start installation and asks for the disk before it can start. It takes about 4 times of hitting cancel before the error comes up saying, cannot continue no disk. I'm not sure if it is adware or a virus or some kind of error within the installer. I don't know how to fix the problem, I have run norton antivirus and system works and nothing. I just bought a game and when I tried to play it, the installer dialogue comes up again ( easy cd creator ), and then everything freezes up and I have to end the program and go back to windows, it is a strange problem. Does anyone have any ideas, please respond

Hi,
What you are seeing is easy cd creator trying to self-heal itself. Windows installer is for running MSI files. If any files or registry entries related to the program are deleted, it will attempt to "heal" these files from the original install location. The self healing is triggered by something trying to access one of the functions of that program. IE: WinZip as an MSI, if I delete the files in the WinZip directory, then attempt to run the program, it will try to heal those files back into place. It would also try to self heal if I right click on a file, as there are right-click menu options for Winzip, or if I doubble clicked on a ZIP file.
What seems to have happened to you, is that easy cd creator became associated with movie files some how, and every time your system tries to play a movie file, it's attempting to use easy cd creator for something. It also appears that your install of easy cd creator is broken somehow, so it try's to fix itself. If it's a hacked copy, I would uninstall it and get another source. If it's legit, I would uninstall it completely, make sure everything appears to work, then reinstall the program. Adaptec's program does not have the best rep for reliablility, you might want to try NERO instead. If none of that works you could try looking at the MIME associations on your system, or, If you don't know what a MIME type is, just rebuild the thing.
