working on packaging till now. I have few questions about

I am very new to this technology and had been working on packaging till recently. I have few queries about the SoftGrid Product

1)Can both MSI packages and NON MSIs be sequenced and made to work on same system? If an application is to be sequenced does it really matter whether the source is in MSI or some other format?

2)Is there an evaluation copy of the product available. If yes how to download it?

3)What are the different product available? And sequencer is a component of which project?

Any help is appreciated

Cheers!!

1> It does not matter how you Sequence (virtualize) your application. You could manually copy the files over and self register the dlls yourself if you wanted to. It is much like making a setup capture with a legacy packaging application.

2> You can either talk to Softricity directly or locate a reseller to get a demo key. I am not an expert on this since I usually don't do pre-sales. Softricity has been veyr forgiving with their demos so don't think that you have to get your eval done and over with in the perious provided. There is excellent pre-sales support so that you can properly understand the product. Current partners can be found here:

3> The way it is looking now that the Microsoft acquisition is over is as follows.

You can buy just desktop or terminal server CALs or Desktop licenses. Licensing is no longer concurrent which is great for the desktop because it became far less expensive than it was before. Here is the best summary I have on the new pricing.

So essentially you buy the client licenses and they throw in the Server so that applications can be streamed, the Sequencer (to build packages), Systems Management Server Connector (optional) and Zero Touch (used to cost $50 a user). The Zero touch product is very usefull if you are into some more cutting edge processes in application provisioning. Check this out for more info on Zero Touch.
