Security
If installing in a lockdown environment, your ordinary users will need Change permission on the following

1) main install folder typically %PROGRAMFILES%\Autocad 2008
2) %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\APPLICATION DATA\AUTODESK

HKLM\SOFTWARE\AUTODESK

Note
In Autodesk 2008, there is a Deployment Wizard, and they still support the Admin Install Image process. The only thing different is the UI within the Deployment Wizard.

We are seeing the same issues as we did in Autodesk 2007 Admin Image for Inventor. The Vault is not installed, and the content is also not avaliable as a result.

Deploy is quiet easy, just create your Admin Image. And use the path in the shortcut it creates(Below is all on one line):

"\\Server\Path\AdminImage\Setup.exe \\Server\Path\AdminImage\CAD08.ini"

Note
By applying this value:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R17.1\ACAD-6001:409]
"LaunchNFW"=dword:00000003

You will avoid display of New Feature Workshop screen at start up.

Command Line
Starting with 2008, there is no "Deployment Wizard" any longer, at least as a separate application that you have to install. So how do you build the deployment if there is no deployment wizard? You'll see not long after you insert the DVD into the drive.

From here, you can install a single standalone copy on the local machine, create a network deployment, or install other tools such as the network license manager. Choose the "Create Deployments" options to build the deployment. The steps are similar to the old "Deployment Wizard".

After a successful build of the deployment, two shortcuts are created. One to install the deployment, and one to modify the deployment.

In earlier versions, if you were scripting the installation of a network deployment, you could use a line like this

\\Server\Software\AutoDesk\Deployments\2006\ACAD2006\AdminImage\deploy.exe "ACAD2006"

...where "ACAD2006" was the name or your deployment.

Now, if you look at the new shortcut that is created, you will see that the target looks something like this.

\\Server\Software\AutoDesk\Deployments\2008\ACD\AdminImage\Setup.exe
\\Server\Software\AutoDesk\Deployments\2008\ACD\AdminImage\ACD.ini

(...inserted a carriage return after 'Setup.exe' for readability, but this is really all one line.) As you can see, "Setup.ini" is being passed to "Setup.exe" now.

If you are scripting your install in a BAT file for example, just use the above line instead of calling "deploy.exe". I have noticed one problem though. Setup.exe ends and calls other .exe files. This is a problem because as soon as "Setup.exe" ends, my BAT file takes off and tries to do the things it needs to do, but the other .EXE files that "Setup.exe" calls are still working... Still looking for a way around this....

Note
As per the Network Administrator's Guide the application MSI may be deployed as an alternative to running setup.exe. The procedure for doing so is as follows:

1) Create a network deployment using the wizard
2) Execute acad.msi with the transform (MST) created by the wizard. (this may be done through a group policy object as described in the manual, but may also be performed through a batch script by running:
msiexec /i \\path\to\acad.msi TRANSFORMS=\\path\to\acad.mst

or even through a ZENworks MSI application object.

Before using the command "msiexec /i \\path\to\acad.msi TRANSFORMS=\\path\to\acad.mst" or installing with GPO the computer must have installed the MSI 3.1, .NET Framework 2.0, Flash Player 9.0, internet Explorer 6.0 SP1, DWF Viewer 7.0 y MDAC 2.7 SP1.

Note
Deploying Autocad 2008 via a system account (GPo, SMS/SCCM, etc), an error 1606 "Could not access network location" can occur. You need to set the HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders.

Export "KEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders" to a reg file. In the .reg exported, rename "User Shell Folders" to "Shell Folders" and apply it to your registry before the installation.
