AppDeploy Repackager with InstallShield

12/22/2016 3442 views
I am creating MSIs with AppDeploy repackager, but then if I try and edit them later with InstallShield Professional it cannot open them. Does anyone know why that would be the case?

Thanks

Just to close this off for anyone that comes across it in the future. I ended up opening a case with Installshield, and they discovered the issue. Installshield requires that an MSI as the _Validation table in it, and the App Deploy MSI template does not include this table.
They provide me a copy of this table, which I can import into the MSI using InstEd and after that Installshield will open and work with the MSI fine.

Humm thats weird, Installshield should be able to open them fine. What kind of error are you getting? Can you open the MSI with Orca or InstEd?

  • I can open and work on it fine with InstEd.
The error message I get is just InstallShield cannot open xx.msi. Please contact Flexera support for more information, which I am doing aswell. Just wanted to see if anyone here had any experience with this error.
    • I would do a quick validation with InstEd to make sure the MSI is all ok. But I suspect Installshield might be bugging out.

Never had that issue before, but I use IS Repackager instead of App Deploy Repack.

IIRC, the AppDeploy Repackager is like InstEdit (and Orca, I think) in that it retains a lock on MSIs when it has them open. IS will not be able to open an MSI until it's closed within InstEdit.
