AutoCAD MSI problem in InstallShield's Direct Editor
I am trying to directly edit the Autocad 2006 MSI for network installation. I need to move the templates to the local user directory instead of it trying to install on each individual user's directory so that the msi doesn't run through an install everytime a user logs on to a machine they have never been on before. There is a custom action that was created as a vb script to edit this problem, however, now everytime anyone clicks on an Acad shortcut regardless of how many times they've used it, the msi installs the templates.
The main question is, how can I get the MSI to stop searching for the directory that it originally wants to create?
For whatever reason, every time I try to go to the Shortcuts in the Editor, the program crashes. This appears to only happen with Acad's MSI. I am pretty certain I should be looking to edit an advertised shortcut, but the problem with it always crashing,(Access Violation), is stopping me from doing so.
Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

As far as I understand from your problem, there should be a key path set for the template files that you have moved to a different location.
You can simply see this after the msi repairs in your eventviewer for the component the msi has repaired. Then see the key path of that component and check whether you had moved this file somewhere else.. if so your requirement is to move then remove the keypath for those files in msi.

Use the network installation wizard which is included with AutoCad 2006.
Because our company sets shortcuts is a standard directory in the Program menu, i edited the source MSI of AutoCAD 2006. Then i used the Network Installation Wizard. This creates a MST.
First we used single license installation, but now we use a license server. Works great.
