Category/Sub Category

I am new to the Kbox and am trying to take a now web based form and create a category that when picked brings up questions needed to be answered by the submitter. The form is hardware request form. I can get the first three items the user needs to pick to show up on the ticket screen but after that nothing. How deep can you configure the sub categories with a drop down menu to choose which option. The user would have to have the option of picking the following: What model computer, new or refurbished, monitor size, computer memory, docking station, laptop bag. After monitor size nothing shows up on the ticket screen. Has anyone done this or have any ideas of how to make it work or what I am doing wrong?

It's a matter of having that option in the tree available.

In your example, you would need to select the 24 inch monitor to get the 4GB option. As set above, 4GB would be the only option available.

For example, if you wanted 4GB Memory for the 19" monitor, you would add:

Hardware Request Form::Desktop Refurbished::19 inch Monitor::4GB Memory

You basically have to add a new category for each option you wish to include.

You should be able to create new drop downs by doing something like this in Categories:
New Hardware
New Hardware::Computer
New Hardware::Computer::Model Types etc....
I haven't tested this out, but it's a place to start maybe.

From my own testing I haven't seen any limitation on the number of sublevels. I stopped creating them at 12 levels though. You might want to consider making processes for this type of thing as categories are much more time consuming to build for a request form, and also less likely that the users would select as far as you want them to. Most give up after 3-4 levels deep in my experience.

This is what I have done and on the ticket screen it does not go past the monitor options.

Hardware Request Form::Desktop
Hardware Request Form::New
Hardware Request Form::Refurbished
Hardware Request Form::Desktop::New::Monitor::17”
Hardware Request Form::Desktop::New::Monitor::19”
Hardware Request Form::Desktop::New::Monitor::24”
Hardware Request Form::Desktop::New::Monitor::Dual
Hardware Request Form::Desktop::New::Computer Memory::4GB
Hardware Request Form::Desktop::New::Computer Memory::8GB
Hardware Request Form::Desktop::New::Computer Memory::16GB

I keep building until I have the above options created for Desktop New, Desktop Refurbished, Laptop, Apple, Tablet

Just a guess here: What if you change the inch double quote symbol (") to the word "inch" instead when breaking down the monitor sizes? I noticed the email sent by this forum didn't handle that double quote well and maybe that is also hindering your setup.

I took out the " and put in the word inch. That still didn't give me anything past the monitor selection. I made a couple of other changes and still don't get what I want.

Hardware Request Form
Hardware Request Form::Desktop New
Hardware Request Form::Desktop Refurbished
Hardware Request Form::Apple
Hardware Request Form::Laptop
Hardware Request Form::Desktop New::Monitor 17 inch
Hardware Request Form::Desktop New::Monitor 19 inch
Hardware Request Form::Desktop New::Monitor 24 inch
Hardware Request Form::Desktop New::Computer Memory 4GB
Hardware Request Form::Desktop New::Computer Memory 8GB
Hardware Request Form::Desktop New::Computer Memory 16Gb

The drop down for the computer model works great. The next field has the drop down for the monitors. After that I don't get a field for the drop down to pick computer memory.

OK at this point I am beginning to think that there is something wrong with our database.

Hardware Request Form::Desktop New::17 inch Monitor::2GB Memory
Hardware Request Form::Desktop Refurbished::19 inch Monitor::2GB Memory
Hardware Request Form::Desktop New::24 inch Monitor::4GB Memory
Hardware Request Form::Desktop Refurbished::24 inch Monitor::4GB Memory

The ticket screen shows Hardware Request Form in Category
Drop down menu for choosing Desktop New or Desktop Refurbished
Drop down menu for choosing 17 inch Monitor, 19 inch Monitor, 24 inch Monitor
Drop down menu for choosing 2GB memory and that is all that it shows. No other options are there to choose from.
