Software Deployment Question

Confused on creating a new image (or is it Source Media?) for use in scripted installs

I'm new to the K2000.  I have not received any training and sort of picking my way through this.  I came from admining Landesk, which I had no issues with.

I want to create a brand new base Windows 7 image to be used for scripted installs.  Our current Win 7 image is missing 145+ updates...so basically, I need to update it and recap it.  I have built a fresh load, updated it, sysprepped it, captured it, but it won't deploy, it gets all kinds of errors...even after using the exact same preinstall, mid and post install tasks as the current one.

I'm not sure, but I think I found something...should these base images be under "Source Media" and not in the "System Images"?

I'm also wondering if there are misunderstandings with nomenclature when folks refer to "imaging", or "images"?

I need a fresh "Source Media" of Win 7 (that has had updates applied) upon which to build "Scripted Installs".

I've searched through the forums looking for specific examples or "How-to's" and not having any luck with what I am finding.

Source Media would be the Windows media you upload to the kbox to use for a Scripted Install...i.e a scripted install is the same as installing from a Windows installer disc. In your case - you are capturing an image so nothing to do with a Scripted Install.

Hi,things work like this... in source media are operating systems and KBEs uploaded via KACE media manager...they are used for scripted installations...because in the first step of SI you have to choose uploaded OS for that current installation...

on the other hand, once you capture image in kace boot environment it is saved in Deployments/system images... from my experience, K-imaging option needs sysprep perfomed, but WIM doesn't...

honestly,i haven't tried to capture image and then make it into format acceptable for uploading via media manager for scripted installation purpose... I quess it can be done...hope someone will back me up on this...
