Deploy from 64bit to 32.

We have purchased a number of 64bit machines. However we have legacy software that requires us to use 32 bit. Can I deploy my 32bit image to a 64 bit machine? Or will there be extra steps involved?

Thanks!

Most programs designed for the 32-bit version of Windows will work on the 64-bit version of Windows. Notable exceptions are many antivirus programs.

Device drivers designed for 32-bit versions of Windows won't work on computers running a 64-bit version of Windows. If you're trying to install a printer or other device that only has 32-bit drivers available, it won't work correctly on a 64-bit version of Windows.

Hardware that will run a 64bit OS will still run a 32bit OS. Most PCs in the last 5ish years or so would technically support 64bit - it's just recently that 64bit has truly become a standard so OEMs are now commonly shipping with 64bit pre-installed...

When we adopted 64bit as our standard OS last year I was presently surprised at how much hardware/software was compatible. We only had a few bumps in the road we've now ironed out. Bummer on the legacy software...always holding us back!
