Global QuickLaunch icons for Office 2K3?

Howdy.

Here's what I'm trying to do:
1) Create shortcut icons of Excel, Powerpoint and Word in c:\D&S\Default User\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch -> so they are availabe to any/all profiles who log into this workstation.

I've got the famed MS Office 2K3 Custom Installation Wizard opened, and created a MST file with additional customer requested settings and the 3 shortcuts directed to be copied to location: <ApplicationData>\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch.

I thought this would work, but it's only copying the shortcuts to the Quick Launch folder within the profile which installed the app.

So, does the CIW provide the functionality I'm looking for? ...Or do I have to get more creative...

Thanks!
- Jay

Well, you got the right folder variable i think, what do your Directory table say?

ALLUSERS=2 property may work for published install

Thanks for the reply! I did piece my way through the "Components" tab and found a shortcut called OCW_Added_SCut_2 under "Global_Excel_Core"/"Shortcuts". When I select the details of this, it doesn't allow me the option to verify the ALLUSERS=2 property.

Is there another spot I can check this? Am I in the right spot? Novice here. ;-)

ALLUSERS is a property, and you can find it in the "Property" table. With the Office Resource Kit, you can specify this on the last page, "Modify Setup Properties". But I don't think this will help here, though, as I belive the ApplicationData folder will always point to the user directory.

As for making a global quick launch folder, is that even possible? I have done some google'ing, and also tested it myself, but haven't found a way to have a global quick launch folder. There isn't on under either "Default Users" or "All Users", and making one here doesn't seem to work. I have also seen a few web sites that says it is not possible, the quick launch is per user only.

Thanks Sikkert for the assist!

I've created an .EXE that will be called by a Custom Action during the MSI install that will copy the shortcuts to the Default User QuickLauch folder. While that will give new users the shortucts required, any current users will have to make due by copying them over themselves.

From what mgmt is telling me, the QL links were requested only for new users (new workstation builds), not existing user. Would've been nice to know beforehand, as it wasn't doc'd like that in the requirements.

Thanks!
