Best Practices Question

How do I change a single driver in Driver Feed?

Hey all,

I've been doing some reading lately on the Driver Feed in K2000 and have a question. We have an environment with a mix of E7240s, 7250s, and 7270s. Our wifi system in our office is unfortunately problematic when using the latest wifi drivers for each of these machines. I'm wondering how I would go about using the driver feed to keep everything up to date except for the wifi driver. I know I can use the feed builder for an entire machine and upload all the drivers, and I know I can download the entire driver pack for the machine in driver feed, but I would like to just upload an older driver for the wifi but keep the latest drivers for the rest of the devices.

Is the best way to go about this to just build an entirely custom driver feed or is there a good way to slip in just the wifi driver? I've browsed around the post_install folder and found the network drivers but I see a lot of folders in there and am not sure which driver is which or how to upload just the wifi driver from driver feed builder without doing the entire machine.

Thanks for the help.

you are on the right way, but this would not help

You can replace the driver there (download the one you need from Dell, extract the exe and replace the drivers you don't want with it) and recache the drivers.
This works until a new driver feed version has been released then the default driver feed will bei installed again.

If you know that with special systems the default driver does not work, install the working driver as a post install task (driver.exe /s /f (installs silent and forcefully (ie replaces newer versions))) to have it there.

  • Excellent. Thanks for that, that helps a lot. I may try both routes and see which works for us.
