Software Deployment Question

How to prepare InstallShield MSI package for System Center Configuration Manager 2012? Problem with installing update.

I have the following problem - a msi package was deployed on client's computer and manually run in software center (part of SCCM 2012).

The package was an upgrade to an existing application on that computer.

When the window of Software Center appeared, the "state" of that update was already "installed" (but nobody had installed it though).

Is it a fault of InstallShield 2010 configuration i.e. do we have to put some additional data into msi for SCCM 2012 software center to recognise update or is it something else?

I would really appreciate if somebody wrote how to prepare Install Shield MSI packages for SCCM 2012 software center to check if they will update properly.

Also any documenation will be appreciated.

MSI/Installshield setup.exe packages are independent of SCCM. Apples and Oranges.

When you run software installers from Software Centre, SCCM knows it has been run and makes the state as installed. Check the CCM logs when you manually run it and you will see, this info will get passed back to the server.

If your saying that you have offered the update to the computer, and it says it has run, even though you know it hasnt - this could be a config issue. Have you deployed this update to the PC through any other SCCM means? SCCM only knows about stuff it does to itself.

How are you offering this update? As an advert? If its an advert did you assign a mandatory time? If so, it will run by itself at that time.

As always, check the CCM logs, specially the execmgr logs, use CMTrace.

This is no fault of Installshield, it wont even care about it, let alone know how to communicate with SCCM.
