Is deploying an MSP with SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE required?

Hi all,

I have Dreamweaver 8 deployed via GPO (machine assigned MSI with MST that provides license info), and I want to apply the dw8_801_update_en.exe against installed instances of this. I have extracted the MSP contained within that exe, which manually seems to apply just fine against an installed Dreamweaver instance. I am planning to edit my Dreamweaver GPO to also include a StartUp script that will run the following:
MSIEXEC /P <path_&_name_of_MSP> /qn

But I am wondering if I should include the SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE in that MSIEXEC statement?

And this brings to mind a more general question, given that my company doesn't have SMS or anything like that (we just use plain old GPOs for all our MSI pushes), is the method above a good way to push MSPs to clients? It seems that running the MSP against my administrative install of Dreamweaver wouldn't result in patching existing users unless I opt to redeploy the package in the GPO.

Any advice on either question would be awesome.

I use shortfilenames=true but I use a web based deployment tool so I have to. I would think its not needed the vast majority of the time.
