Java 1.4.2.02 Install Error

Has anyone seen this error before when installing Java 1.4.2.02 with the silent install switches?

Java (TM) update fails to apply changes to your system

Command Line: j2re-1_4_2_02-windows-i586-p.exe /S /v/qn

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all![:o]

SpaceMonkey's command line is correct. You can also specify additional parameters for the install.

To prevent the Web Start desktop icon, add WEBSTARTICON=0
To make Sun's JRE the default in Internet Explorer use IEXPLORER=1
To make Sun's JRE the default in Mozilla 1.1 or higher use MOZILLA=1
To make Sun's JRE the default in Netscape 6 or later use NETSCAPE6=1
To disable the Java update feature and tab use JAVAUPDATE=0

For example:
MsiExec.exe /i java2RuntimeEnvironmentSE1-4-2_02.msi /qn JAVAUPDATE=0 WEBSTARTICON=0 IEXPLORER=1

See this document on Sun's website for more information: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/plugin/developer_guide/silent.html

I have the same problem installing Java but am too technologically unsophisticated to understand the recommendations posted below. IS there a simple patch I can download to rectify the following error I get each time I try to install Java 1.4.2:

"java (tm) update fails to apply changes" and "Error 1722 there is a problem with this windows installer package"

Hello.

I still have not yet figured out what was going on with Java 1.4.2.02. There are all kinds of posts in the Sun Java forums. We had to actually have our developers recompile there Java app into version 1.4.1.03 which is working fine for us now. Please let me know if you find a fix or know what is causing the issue. At this point I'm more curious than anything. Thanks.....and good luck!!
