I'm new to kace and would like to see if i can get a little help with some scripts. I have non-domain systems at different locations. I'm want to disable the windows update service on the devices. I'm using an old windows update script to run once a month. I also need to see about disabling some computer configurations in local computer policy. The policys i want to disable is the OOBE and microsoft account. I would like to do this in one script. these are all windows 10 pro systems as well. im also not sure what version of kace im on. any information would be helpful.
This used to be a standard script that you created from a wizard in the scripting screen, it is still there in the SMA.....However.....experience over the last two years or so as Windows 10 has come to the forefront has tuaght us that this script works, but Windows will turn it back on without warning. If your desire is to be able to control all updates and avoid users doing their own, this is not the way to go. Microsoft have found more an more ways to just re-enable the functionality and the only thing you can do from a KACE SMA is actually delete the service from the client, which means it wont ever work again.
The best way to stop users from updating and to be able to control all updates from the SMA is to run a script setting a dummy WSUS server location for the end-user systems to check with. this means that rather than checking on the web for updates they will check the dummy, thus leaving the service intact but passing control to you an the KACE SMA.
There is a wizard script template on the SMA for create a WSUS server script, I hope that is of use
