Kace Smart Tags not working?

Afternoon

As a newbie here and with Kace I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

I have a Smart Label simply to find my computer by its name, this works in the test and I am able to save and review the label however I cannot use this label in the inventory as a filter!

What's up with that?!  Another smart label I use is based on the agent version and that works as a filter!

Grrr.

Many thanks in advance.

Yep that was it - unfortunately I found this out myself, mainly due to Outlook pushing all IT Ninja emails to the junk folder and not telling me!

Thanks for taking the time to read and resolve.

It seems that you only created a Smart Label without a "normal" label. Only these normal labels will be shown in the inventory view. You need to assign this Smart Label to a Label and you should see it.

Could it be that the machine hasn't inventoried yet since creating your smart label? That would throw me off at first when I jumped into Kace. You create your label search, test it out, and all looks good so you save it. Then the label is no where to be found. What happens is the new smart label will not actually be created and populated until the machines in question check in. Just a thought.

Agree with jegolf.  I had the same issue.  Drove me nuts!  :-)
Also, be careful how many Smart Labels you create.  Each time a machine checks in it must compare itself to all smart labels to see if it applies.  The more smart labels, the slower your system may be (depending on how many systems you have checking in and how often).  Static labels are better but you have to manage them manually.

  • Then one would need a new product IMO. Thats the whole point of having this system is the labels and making it complicated. Otherwise we would just use WSUS. - lama01 5 years ago

I know this is a few years old but I've found KACE even today, if you mess with the labels too much they seem to corrupt and not work as they should. Meaning you might have to delete the label and start over. This may not be the solution to this exact problem but anyone looking for a solution where for some reason computers are / arent filtered when they should be, you might have to recreate the filter. I actually figured this out on my own with KACE on the phone insisting my query was wrong.
