Modify source media for Scripted Installation?

I would like to update the windows installation for my source media. It seems that I can do this with a combination of WSUS Offline and DISM.exe. Unfortunately, I don't have write access to the source cd directory in the K2, and so it seems I would have to upload a new Source CD (which is the same as the media I use for all my scripted installs, but has the updates and a new catelog file).

It doesn't look like you have the option of changing the source media for the scripted install. This is a huge inconvenience since I have ~40 scripted installs that all use the same media. Is it possible to change the source media? Is there an easy method to migrate a scripted install from one source media to another? Can I somehow apply updates to the source media in place? Is there something that I am missing?

short of recreating all your scripted installs, I would upload your new source meida and call Tech support they may be able to relink on the back end.

  • I ended up adding a mid-level task to use DISM and apply updates from the petemp folder, but it's not an entirely satisfactory resolution... overall it takes more time than if I could have them already installed in the media. - muebel 8 years ago
  • I have not used this method with a scripted install, but it uses an answer file so it may also work for it. Create a mid level task to xcopy from the image share to the PC any new drivers. make sure they are all expanded and put them in subdirectories under one main directory. Xcopy that dir to windows\inf.
When a box comes up out of sysprep, it looks undder the windows\inf structure for drivers and will find the ones copied here. Do not know if scripted install scans this folder but a xcopy would be faster them DISM. - SMal.tmcc 8 years ago
