Office 2007 - Local Install Help Needed
Hi all,
Microsoft is boasting the ability to run Office 2007 from local install source. (Local Caching to "C:\MSOCache\All Users\") http://technet2.microsoft.com/Office/en-us/library/8295626a-4570-4b7f-91e3-717fe6b81f961033.mspx?mfr=true
I have locally cached the files but cannot initiate the install within the local office folder. Running the Setup.exe starts the install but then quickly removes the cache files and terminates. I think I should be running a config.xml file with this local install but have found no references to this online. Has anyone had sucess with this? If yes, could you provide any .msp or .xml files used? I have gotten this to work on our network location of Office 2K7 but we are anticipating users in the "field" whom do not have strong and stable network connections so this method would be GREAT.
Thank you in advance.

Make sure to include the HKLM registry keys that are created when you perform a Local Installation Source installation! Microsoft 'forgot' to document this so it took a while to figure this out!!!
Because you are trying to initiate the installation from this LIS (MSOCache) and the HKLM registry keys are missing setup will try to recreate the MSOCache and fails...
In my case I created a dynamic LIS. For each component (Enterprise, Visio, Project, Sharepoint Designer) I created a seperate LIS that can be combined into a single LIS..
It's the registry keys! ;)
What I did per Office 2007 (Enterprise, Visio, Project, Sharepoint Designer)component :
- Create an MSP (setup /admin), make modifications (serial number etc.) and put the resulting MSP in the Includes folder
- Create a LIS installation using a config.xml (only to include the language settings and LIS entry)
- Run setup (LIS)
- Extract HKLM keys
- Deploy LIS + Reg keys
- Initialize unattended local installation
